NJ Dual Meets

Millburn vs Columbia sabre
As we head into the Districts, let’s not forget the amazing records these high school teams have been accumulating. Last night’s meet with Millburn and Columbia brought two wins for Columbia, as they remain undefeated this season!

Teaneck vs WV BTS
We also captured amazing come back and win from Teaneck girls against Wayne Valley. 14-13!

Bernards vs Pingry 1
And Bernards took on neighboring Pingry for two wins as Bernards remains undefeated as well.

We’ll be filming plenty more meets but the most exciting ones are yet to come: the State Tournament. Beginning in February, teams entering the round of 16 will face off in a dual meet so the winners will eventually fence in the Team State Finals. Think of it like March Madness in basketball. But first, we have the District tournaments…

Doc D’Ambola Tournament

I had the honor and privilege to interview the great, Doc D’Ambola, at the SYC held at NJFA. Doc grew up in Newark, NJ and became the fencing coach at Essex Catholic High School in the 1960s. He coached a generation of fencers who became successful members of society and are today’s New Jersey’s coaches! So if you think about it, there wouldn’t be New Jersey high school fencing as it exists today without Doc!

Check out some of his former students and see if you can find your high school coach or referee among them!

Santelli and Cetrulo Tournaments

And Columbia High School wins BOTH tournaments! Great effort by all the teams and congrats to the Columbia cougars!

Columbia wins

It was a great tournament and very efficiently run with the new Fencing Time program and set up at the Morristown Armory. We got right up to the action and caught some amazing bouts. Very exciting to see young fencers with such passion for the sport.
